WSOP 2009: Event #4 $1800

In 1 on June 3, 2009 at 3:46 pm

I cashed in the $1k Buy in event for $1860. Sure it was a minimum cash but the field was massive, the stacks were short and my cards were dead. Working on a full report so stay tuned.

Still Grinding

In 1 on May 22, 2009 at 2:45 pm

With less than a week before the WSOP starts I have still not cracked the Steps on Stars. I have reached Gold VIP status and collected a whole lot of step 4 tickets. I keep running into tables full of Regular high stakes grinders that have skipped all the rest. I will need to cross my fingers, play my game and avoid flipping with donkeys if I want to do this for under $600.

In the above article one of the major objections to online poker and gaming in general is completely debunked. I never thought about the fact that online horse racing bets are placed every day by Kentuckians and not one person has complained about underaged gamblers. Kentucky has a system in place for online gaming and an almost inpenetrable system for scratch off players; Face to Face, Hand to Hand transactions.

How hard would it be to turn those  systems into a mechanism for online Intra-State poker here in Kentucky?

The STEP Grind

In 1 on May 12, 2009 at 11:00 pm

I have been grinding the WSOP Steps on Stars. Holy Mary these things are rough. I have picked up a few $200 tickets but every time I look at playing for a Step #5 I see tables full of high limit SNG sharks waiting to snap me off. I really wish Poker Stars would limit the number of seats these guys can win. They are killing the action bigtime since most of us know what the deal is there. Regardless, my plan is to rack up 6 to 10 Step 4 tickets wait for the weekend and try to bumrush my way to a seat in the WSOP all for less than my budget of $400.

Wish me the best.

It is acutally Black Jack but whatever fills the rooms I guess.

A Very Sad Day, Justin Shronk (1981-2009) – Joe Sebok – PokerRoad.com.

For those of us who listen to the Poker Road Podcasts ‘Shronk’ was the guy pushing the producer buttions and herding the insane cast which includes Joe Sebok, Gavin Smith, Alli-wood from location to location with his finger on the “Bleep” button. His sudden and unexpected death today is a shock to his, the Poker Road family and the Poker scene in general.

Poker Slang: FTW

In 1 on April 16, 2009 at 10:31 am

When you are on the virtual felt at an online poker site every once in a while you will see in the Player Chat box area “FTW”. What the heck does that mean?
For the longest time I thought it actually meant “What The Flip” but the letters were in the wrong order. So one day I had to ask the stupid question on 2+2 thinking I would get flamed. Actually they were pretty nice and explained the FTW stood for “For The Win” and it means that someone is not playing to just cash but FTW.

Louisville Poker League: Finally a decent Cash

In Poker, Poker League on April 15, 2009 at 9:55 pm

I really don’t like bragging because I think it brings bad Karma. However I CASHED in this week’s Louisville Poker League event. I have made a final table and got to 11th twice but it feels good to finally break through into the money. Yes, I know poker is about winning money but league play is a little different.

When you play in a league consistency is probably the most important thing you got to focus on. When ten out of twelve results tabulate your final TOC chip stack you gotta stay consistent and only take stabs at first a few times. My problem this season has been that I missed a few events due to back surgery and every score counts. So I am stuck playing tight is right poker hoping to pick up a spot or two every week.

I don’t worry about the unknown players scoring a big win since most of them either never return or because of thier gambling nature they bust early and often. So tight is right is the way to fly every Wednesday night for me.

Tournament Summary:

PokerStars Tournament #155482021, No Limit Hold’em

Trying to Break Through

In 1 on April 14, 2009 at 4:24 pm

Pokerstars really upset me with its decision to allow the datamine farms to continue to observe every single event and publish the results. I was looking forward to not hearing about how much of a fish I am from the multitabling – multi accounting – chat abusing – collusion teams that run rampant there and on Full Tilt.

I have checked my statisitcs religiously because I know these dinks live by them. Across the board I currently rank in the 76-78 percentile. Further review shows that I am a regular late position player meaning I have the skill to run deep in most every event I play. What separates me from the top 20%?

Well, I just have not had that one big win since 2006. Up until then I was a regular casher and heavy sat player until my game got sidelined by a number of personal issues that had to come first. Since then two things have altered the online poker scene. First, UIGEA seriously depleted the number of American fish/recreational players since it is so hard to deposit anymore. Second, “PushBots” and the math of the game has progressed to the point where ABC poker does not cut it anymore. IE, “The pond is smaller and the Sharks are bigger”.

However, I have taken upon myself to start tracking the finish positions of players who either cripple me or felt me. What I have found is that usually they are “Gamblers” who bust soon after I do. Eventually the big scores and subsequent moving back up in stakes will happen but until then if you have a lower ITM% than me, STFU.
